Here's how you can maintain a servant leadership approach in high-pressure situations.
My mentor taught me the Four D's: Do, Delegate, Delete and Delay. With that in mind - call in the troops and foster a culture where team members are encouraged to brainstorm and propose solutions. This collaborative approach can alleviate pressure and inspire innovative thinking. Help your team concentrate on actionable items and what they can control rather than getting overwhelmed by the magnitude of the pressure. Break the tasks into micro-tasks and ensure you're using technology to coordinate activities so they are not duplicated or omitted.

You’re a servant leader looking to advance your career. How can you leverage your network to do it?
1. Cultivate Authentic Relationships: Focus on building genuine connections with individuals who share your values and vision. Offer support and resources without expecting immediate returns, demonstrating your commitment to serving others within your network. 2. Seek Feedback and Mentorship: Embrace a mindset of continuous learning by actively seeking feedback from mentors and peers. Be open to constructive criticism as a catalyst for personal and professional growth, leveraging the guidance and insights of trusted mentors to navigate your career path.

The classes provided me with a unique opportunity to explore the exhilarating realm of spontaneous performance.
Through these classes, I learned to embrace the unknown, to trust my instincts, and to cultivate a deep sense of presence on the stage. Terry’s wealth of knowledge, honed through years of professional acting, served as a wellspring of inspiration, and his guidance propelled me to push my boundaries, unlocking new dimensions of creativity I never knew existed.
The improvisational exercises we engaged in were like a playground for the imagination, fostering quick thinking, adaptability, and the ability to seamlessly collaborate with fellow performers. I discovered the power of active listening, the importance of building upon the ideas of others, and public speaking. -

Team building was another crucial area of focus. We were exposed to diverse group dynamics, and the academy provided us with opportunities to lead, collaborate, and build strong, cohesive teams. Through various team exercises and challenges, we learned the importance of understanding individual strengths and weaknesses within a team, promoting unity, and fostering an environment of trust and mutual respect.
Additionally, the NCO Academy emphasized adaptability and quick decision-making. Military scenarios are known for their unpredictable nature, and the academy trained us to think on our feet, assess situations rapidly, and make sound decisions under pressure.

A Mission Continues Fellowship involves 20 hours of service per week for 26 weeks at a local nonprofit organization. Fellows are encouraged to choose a nonprofit organization to serve based on their own personal passions. Current and Alumni Fellows have worked at organizations addressing issues ranging from disaster preparedness to education for low-income youth to training service dogs for wounded veterans. These host organizations include Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
Before beginning the fellowship, Fellows attend a three-day Fellowship Orientation, joining other post-9/11 veterans from their Fellowship Class for a weekend of training, service and camaraderie. Upon returning home from orientation, Fellows officially begin their fellowships at their host organizations.
Throughout the fellowship, each Fellow will have the opportunity to lead a community service project, share their story with others, and inspire their community to take action. I've also been a Platoon Member for about 8 years and have worked on projects in Austin, Houston, St. Louis, and Chicago to better the community. -

After volunteering with the Lone Star Veterans Association for 10 years, the charity was folded into Combined Arms. I hit the ground running and helped coordinate activities and events for Veterans at the physical location in Houston. When Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, I spearheaded a coalition of Veteran Service Organizations to run the Tactical Operation Command Center in Houston. This resulted in combining the efforts of the Travis Manion Foundation, The Mission Continues, Easter Seals of Greater Houston, Rotary International, Impact a Hero, Team Rubicon and many others to help rescue those in harms way. After the flooding, we switched from rescue to recovery mode and helped house those who were displaced by the water. Another step was rebuilding the community and getting people food in the greater Houston area. I'm still volunteering in that role to help get nutritious food to Veterans on a monthly basis through pop up and drive thru food pantries.

On that date, America watched in horror as approximately 3,000 people died including hundreds of firefighters and rescue workers. Many warriors note a sense of duty to volunteer for the military following these tragic events. Sept. 11 also served as a stimulus for Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, and New Dawn. Operation Iraqi Freedom refers to military operations in Iraq that began March 19, 2003 and officially ended August 31, 2010. Operation Enduring Freedom refers to combat operations in Afghanistan and other regions in support of the Global War on Terror. Operation New Dawn refers to the conclusion of operations in Iraq beginning September 1, 2010 and ending December 15, 2011. For WWP, there is a distinct difference between members and alumni; the term alumni indicates a mutual shared experience and denotes your place in an organization was earned. There are no dues here - those were paid by wearing the uniform and on the battlefield.
